Dear Colleagues,
I hope this message finds you well as we conclude the 2024-25 academic year. As the school year wraps up, I encourage you all to take some time to rest, relax, and enjoy the beautiful Maine summer. This newsletter contains valuable information about professional development opportunities, specifically the EMME Summer Institute, which will be held on August 18th at the University of Maine in Orono. Additional details can also be found on our website.
The conference committee is actively planning for the 2026 Spring Conference, and we will share more information soon. I encourage you to start thinking about students and colleagues you would like to nominate for one of the many awards EMME offers. I am particularly excited about our newest initiative, the EMME Multilingual Learner Award, which recognizes students who have overcome initial language barriers while attending an accredited Maine school. This award honors the effort and commitment involved in language learning, including English.
I sincerely encourage your participation in these events and activities. Your engagement is vital to the success of our organization. If you are not yet a member of EMME, we invite you to join us. As a nonprofit organization, we rely on our members, and there are numerous benefits to being part of our community.
Lastly, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the EMME Board: Johanna Bridges, Traci Storti, Jessica Umel, Tatiana Lera, Eunice Loredo, Stephnie Carbonneau, and Skip Crosby, for their tireless efforts in making our Spring Conference a tremendous success. We deeply appreciate their dedication and look forward to their continued contributions.
As we close out this academic year, I am confident that together we will build upon our past achievements and make a lasting impact in our community. I look forward to your involvement and to seeing you soon.
Warm regards,
Fred Ravan
President EMME
